NEOPORTRAIT
Gildo Medina portrays societies, individuals, moments and emotions, as a sensorial record of his own history.
More than ten years ago, after living in Paris for a long period, Gildo Medina created the concept “Néo-Portrait” or “Neo-portrait”, which incorporates his current conceptual creation process, decontextualizing the classical way in which we understand portrait, experimenting on different stands, formats and materials, from the back of an antique chair, a piece of a tree trunk covered in gold leaf, a trunk, to a sheet of paper or a leather canvas; each of them chosen for a precise and calculated intention which becomes visual and sensorial poetry, translated into commonly autobiographical stories where he captures his concerns, fascinations and obsessions, using different characters as part of his narrative
